PARIS TERROR ATTACKS SUSPECT SALAH ABDESLAM ARRESTED IN BRUSSELS

He came running out of the building with his hands up.
Paris terrorist fugitive Salah Abdeslam – dubbed the world’s most wanted man – is believed to have been arrested by Belgian police in a raid on a safehouse in a suburb known as the ‘jihadi capital of Europe’.
Dozens of heavily-armed police and special forces rushed a flat in Molenbeek, Brussels, as they hunted for the 26-year-old – one of three ‘blood brothers’ believed to be at the heart of French massacres where 129 people died on Friday.

Abdelsam has been the subject of a vast international manhunt but incredibly he was stopped and then released by French police guarding the Belgian border hours after the attacks.

It appears the terror suspect, believed to be a getaway driver and potential shooter, went into hiding in Molenbeek, where the eight-strong ISIS terror cell may have met before the Paris raids to gather automatic weapons and suicide vests.

Huge numbers of armed police and special forces in balaclavas and carrying machine guns surrounded a top floor flat in the area this morning.

Special forces were seen climbing down from the roof with one witness saying he dropped tear gas through a Velux window to flush out a suspect who came out on to a balcony with his arms up.

A hooded man was handcuffed and put in a car by plain-clothes police – the Belgian media claimed this man was Salah Abdeslam but the authorities have not confirmed this.

SENATOR KASAMUN BURUJI GAVE LIFE BACK TO A DYING PATIENT

38-YEAR-OLD MAN OFFERED RELIEF FROM KIDNEY FAILURE
Senator Buruji Kashamu donates N2.5million for transplant
The joy of Mr. Adeyemi Aderogba, a patient being treated for kidney failure at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH), Kano, Kano State, knew no bounds yesterday (15th March, 2016) when he was presented a cheque for the sum of N2.5million to perform a scheduled kidney transplant at the hospital, courtesy of Senator Buruji Kashamu.
Kashamu is the Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District of Ogun State and the Founder of a non-governmental organisation, the Omoilu Foundation.
The management of the teaching hospital had in January, 2016 written to the Abuja office of the Senator seeking financial assistance to be able to continue the dialysis being done for the patient.
But rather than simply accede to the request for support, Senator Kashamu directed his aides to go further. The Senator wanted to know if more could be done; whether there was a donor for the patient and what the cost of performing a kidney transplant at the hospital would be.
Hospital management confirmed a donor was indeed available and the cost of a kidney transplant would be N2.5million.
In response to the news, Senator Kashamu immediately dispatched two of his aides, Honourable Onadeko Onamusi and Mr. Austin Oniyokor, to Kano where they presented the N2.5 million cheque to the hospital’s management.
The team was received by the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Prof. Aminu Zakari Mohammed, who was accompanied by the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Council, Dr. Muhammad Mijinyawa and the Director of Administration, Mallam Adamu Aliyu, among others.
In his address, Onamusi, who is the Senior Legislative Aide to Senator Kashamu, said the gesture was natural to the senator as a compassionate leader and philanthropist.
Onamusi spoke of how the Senator has touched countless lives personally and through the Omoilu Foundation, adding that, “I think it is safe to say he has dedicated his entire life to giving without looking back.”
Onamusi also commended the management of the hospital for taking the initiative to write the senator soliciting assistance for the patient, stressing that such a move was novel.
Responding, Mohammed expressed the gratitude of the members and staff of the hospital to Senator Kashamu for the “life-saving initiative,” and added that the hospital had done about 30 kidney transplants over the years.
“We have heard and read about the good things Senator Kashamu has been doing and we thought that we could approach him on the issue of this patient. We are happy that we are witnesses to his kind gesture. We thank him and pray that the Almighty Allah rewards him abundantly.
“We also wish and pray that more wealthy and highly-placed Nigerians would take a cue from Senator Kashamu in giving hope to the hopeless,” Mohammed said.
Narrating his ordeal with tears rolling down his cheeks, Adeyemi, 38, said he took ill in May of last year and thought he had contracted malaria.
But, upon being treated for malaria and typhoid in Akure, Ondo State, where he was based, his condition did not improve. So, he went to a hospital in Palmgrove, Lagos, where he discovered that his kidneys were failing.
He was later referred to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where he has been undergoing dialysis with the support of his relations and friends. But, as the days went by, and weeks turned to months, his resources began to thin and it was becoming increasingly difficult to raise funds for the dialysis.
That was when the management of the hospital told him they would appeal to well-meaning Nigerians like Senator Kashamu to come to his aid, and according to Adeyemi, “Here am I today; Senator Buruji Kashamu being a kind-hearted person has decided to come to my aid.
I cannot thank him enough.”

O.A.U ASSAULTED STUDENT CALL FOR THE PROSECUTION OF DR LAOLU AGUNKUNLE OF DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY OF SAME INSTITUTION

I, Alaaka Tobi Jibola, of the Department of Demography and Social Statistics wish to publicly express my sadness at the physical assault I endured in the hands of one Dr. Laolu Ogunkule, a lecturer in the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, and to briefly relive the torturous experience in writing, even as I appeal for quick intervention and seek redress.

On Wednesday, 16th of March 2016, at 1000SLT, at a little past noon, Dr. Ogunkunle accosted me on the unsubstantiable suspicion that I was an impersonator in an examination he was co-ordinating - CHM 102; when I had merely been mistaken about the venue of my actual exam -- an elective course which I had registered for, expected to hold at the same hour. But as I was making to leave for the exit, Dr. Ogunkule called me back, to which I respectfully responded.

But in a dramatic turn of event, the so-called "Dr." - evidently intolerant of dialogue, or maybe incapable of such civil resolution to a minor misunderstanding - and with only his indiscretion as proof of my impersonation, resorted to the lowly depths of a street urchin when he thundered violently, and landed repeated slaps on me. And in a manner disturbingly reminiscent of the activities of a lynch mob, the heavily-built Dr. Ogunkunle dragged me by my belt buckle, pushing angrily - in an attempt to shove me to the ground, eventually ripping my shirt to shreds: a public humiliation greeted by shock from the about 500 onlooking students waiting to write their exam, and even the younger lecturers assisting in the exam supervision -- some of whom pleaded with him, as I tearfully did the same. Ogunkule, however, was relentless in his mindless attack, after which he handed me over to the security who, so to speak, rescued me and later apologized to me on his behalf.

Nonetheless, Dr. Laolu Ogunkule by his actions has not only violated the principles of mutual respect, proper conduct, and elementary human decency of our civilization and culture; he has also proven to be a big stain on the Nigerian education system in general, and the academia in particular, with some of his colleagues already describing this incidence as "barbaric" among other colorful terms. But name-calling is not enough. It is partly because of men like Ogunkule, who routinely affront clearly stated laws, that the wider Nigerian society has degenerated into unspeakable lawlessness, now encroaching into our ivory towers. But even more, because men like me, the abused and trampled upon, keep quiet in the face of such cruelty, which partly, and most importantly, stem from the fact that the appropriate authorities and, indeed, the public are often either unpardonably silent or inexplicably lenient in their discharge, or rather perversion, of justice.

I hereby call on the entirety of Obafemi Awolowo University students, on behalf of the students of other Nigerian universities, who quietly suffer similar harrassment - sexual, physical, or verbal - from their lecturers, to join their voice in pressing the university management (The VC, Deans of Faculties, members of the senate); the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the Nigerian University Commission (NUC), other similar authorities, and every stakeholder in the Nigerian education system to ensure that this case between Dr. Ogunkule and, indeed, the prevailing values of the civilized world is not swept under the carpet as usual, so as to serve as a notable deterrence of historical significance, and restore safety to our increasingly hostile academic communities. Of course, Dr. Laolu Ogunkule's rights to fair hearing are yet intact, and he now has a moral obligation, if not a professional necessity, to come out and defend himself over his violent conduct and have this issue resolved as due. We wait.
