22 years old, Shamma Al Mazrui was appointed as the new Minister of Youth by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Prime Minister and Vice-President of UAE on Wednesday in the new cabinet. She will also preside over the Youth National Council.
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum said on Twitter “After discussion with my brother Mohammed bin Zayed and the approval of the President, we hereby announce the new UAE cabinet. The new cabinet focuses on the future, youth, happiness, developing education, and combating climate change.”
Shamma holds a Master’s degree from Oxford University and a Bachelor’s degree from New York University. Sheikh Mohammed said: “We will give the council prerogatives and we expect true achievements from her and her council.” “Youth represents some half of our Arab societies, so it is only logical to give them a voice and role in governing the nation.”
“Youth have hopes and dreams, issues and challenges; they are the reason why societies prosper or fail. They are our hope for the future. Our young country was built by the hands and achievements of youth. Youth is our strength and speed and is our treasure for the future.”
In the past, women have been faced with a constant struggle to be recognized for appointment into public office, but today things have begun to pick up as more women are being given more opportunity to serve their country.
