What a day of reckoning for the likes of Senator Andy Uba, Senator Stella Oduah The Former Aviation Minister, Controversial Hon Andy Uba and other elected under the Platform of PDP when the the Supreme Court upheld an earlier decision by Justice Chukwu of the Federal High Court laying out the proper procedures for selection of the PDP’s legislative candidates. In December 2014, the Federal High Court had ruled that it was only the constitutionally recognized state party leadership led by Ejike Oguebego that could organize the party primaries. Despite that ruling,  President Jonathan and his wife Abrakadabrally authorized a rival faction of the state chapter of the PDP to hold parallel primaries in the state. The Jonathan-backed faction then submitted a list of candidates that were not legally elected as the party’s candidates in the Senate and House of Reps. 

At the end of Plenary , the Supreme Court panel of Nigeria’s with immediate effect sacked the entire contingent of senators and members of the House of Representatives from Anambra State. The decision has swept away all Anambra  State law makers from both the lower and upper chamber including Senator Stella Oduah, the Uba's Andy Uba and Christ Uba and all lawmakers from Anambra state

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on January 19 granted Metuh bail in the sum of N400 million and two sureties with landed property in the Federal Capital Territory.Metuh is standing trial for his alleged involvement in the diversion of arms procurement funds after receiving N400 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014.The PDP spokesman was released from prison after Justice Abang signed his release warrant.The judge, according to reports, signed the release warrant, after receiving details of the two sureties and other requirement provided by metuh

In fact, Nnamdi Kanu was charged with treason. He said he did not want a particular judge to try him. Take him before another judge. I defended Henry Okah who was charged with treason under the Yar’Adua administration. He was tried in camera in Jos. He was refused bail. If the government has fears that Dasuki will run away, there are ways of dealing with the situation under the law. From the information at my disposal, the EFCC has other charges pending against him. Since this is not a security matter ‘stricto sensu’, let the Department of State Services stay away and stop embarrassing the government. The EFCC is competent to handle a clear case of unprecedented looting of the treasury. The rule of law requires that the infraction of the law by any criminal suspect be dealt with under the rule of law and not under the rule of man"

Barrister Falans Totally disagree that the Current administration is authoritarian, an authoritarian is really far from what we have in Nigerian currently. he went further to by sayiing, An authoritarian regime would not have taken Dasuki to court. He would have been held incommunicado until he has refunded all the funds allegedly stolen by him and his accomplices. During the military era, all the suspects would have been detained indefinitely under the State Security Detention . Let us use words like Gestapo or dictatorship as loosely as it is being done during the Military Era. This is not an authoritarian rule but a democratic dispensation. Hence, we should rise up against the contraventions of human rights law by fighting impunity whenever it rears its ugly head.

A Senator representing Lagos Central in the eighth senate, Oluremi Tinubu has said blasted  that President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government has failed to fulfill  its promise to women during the 2015 general election.

The lawmaker who is the wife of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, on Tuesday, expressed dismay with the APC government while assessing the 2016 budget.

Reacting to the fact that the Ministry of Women Affairs got the least allocation in the budget, Oluremi called on the upper chamber of the national assembly to look into the issue in order to avoid the wrath of women.

She said, “In its manifesto, the APC mentioned the need for empowerment programms for Nigerian women. Such comprehensive empowerment requires fund which should be included in the budget for implementation. Going through the budget for the federal ministry of women affairs, I discovered that the total allocation to the women ministry is so meager and I think it would be the least allocation allotted to a ministry in history.

“And when we look at the functions of this ministry, the ministry is divided into two divisions: human resources and capacity building, economic services and women cooperative but when we look at the first division, which is human resources and capacity building, they are supposed to promote education, development of women in the civil, political, socio-cultural and economic sectors.

“All these that I have also mentioned require capital. Looking at this budget of less than N4bn, they have capital with almost N3bn. So, when you look at it, what is left?

“I am just laying this case on behalf of the Nigerian women. This is not going well… It’s as if we were used during the campaign, and we said this is a government of change. The change mantra is supposed to change things across board.

“What they have allotted to the Nigerian women is not encouraging. When we talk about change, it doesn’t mean we are going to dodge and support what is not working.

“This is the best way to start. So that the women would not just be used for campaign and several promises made to them. On behalf of the Nigerian woman, I am making their case today that this budget is not telling anything and not making any promises, so when it gets to the committee level, they should have a way of trying to amend this budget so that it would meet all the needs that the Nigerian women and they would not incur the wrath of the Nigerian woman.”

Going by the law maker point of view, we at this blog actually feel that the present government really needs to do more, ofcourse we agree, this is still a transition to a better Nigeria, however, a lot still need to be done and Nigerians should not be made to pay for sins not committed and women should be given more attention and should be empowered.
